FUN FACT #1
1. Fun Fact...Larch Mountain Country Artisans (LMCA) began art activities reportedly in a bulb shed in 1979 in the Corbett, Oregon area. Corbett is a community near an area named Larch Mountain at the west end of the Columbia Gorge, a national scenic area, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The natural beauty of the area is often the subject matter of local art. The activities are believed to have included a show, demonstrations, instruction and workshops in the shed.

2. Fun Fact...On June 1, 1982 the group titled the LMCA incorporated as a nonprofit in Oregon and listed its purposes as (A) To stimulate interest in the arts and crafts among members and throughout the community. (B) To encourage a high standard of excellence in member’s work by fostering an appreciation of excellence within the community and regional visitors. (C) To help and encourage all persons interestedin the arts and crafts through educational and social activities. (D) To promote exhibitions and sales of articles made by its members and to present to the community the work of other noteworthy artisans. (E) To provide instruction and space in which to work for people who desire to express themselves in the area of art in conjunction with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and, where applicable, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

3. Fun Fact...June 1st 1982...Listed on the incorporation form were members: President, Teresa Kasner, Others: Nancy Willis, Diana Pearcy, Carol Selberg, Ted Norman, Sue Davis and Peggy Standbury. No written record is currently available of the organization’s activities but it is known they continued to meet regularly throughout the years and conduct an annual show at the bulb shed eventually moving to the Corbett Grange Hall.
4. Fun Fact...On January 8, 1991 the LMCA resubmitted governing documents listing the purposes then as (A) To stimulate interest in the arts among members and the community. (B) To encourage the highest standard of excellence in member’s work by fostering an appreciation of excellence within the community. (C) To promote exhibitions of articles made by its members and to present to the community the work of noteworthy artisans. (D) To help and encourage all persons interested in the arts, through educational and social activities. (E) To provide a focal point for art activities in the community.

5. Fun Fact...Reference to the city of Corbett: Larch Mountain Country Artisans (LMCA) began art activities reportedly in a bulb shed in 1979 in the Corbett, Oregon area.
"This community on the Historic Columbia River Highway between Sandy River and Crown Point was named for Senator Henry Winslow Corbett, one of Oregon’s prominent pioneer citizens, for many years a resident of Portland. In 1885, Mr. Corbett purchased a nearby farm from Ervine J. Taylor, who had moved down to the Columbia River about the time the railroad was built in 1882."

6. Fun Fact...The city of Corbett, where LMCA originated, has had a long standing interest in the arts. In the previous fun fact post #5 we mentioned the city of Corbett was named after senator Henry W. Corbett. Mr. Corbett also happened to invest in the Portland Art Association in 1892, which later was renamed on July 31, 1989 as the Oregon Art Institute.

8. Fun Fact...In 2005, It is believed that the activities LMCA included regular member meetings, an annual show, workshops at Corbett School and donations to Vista House Restoration Project and Corbett School for the arts program. During this period the venue moved from the Corbett Grange Hall to the Sam Cox building at Glen Otto Park in Troutdale.

Fun Fact...After refiling Oregon nonprofit incorporation papers in 2005 the organization listed its purposes as the same as in 1991: (A) To stimulate interest in the arts among members and the community. (B) To encourage the highest standard of excellence in member’s work by fostering an appreciation of excellence within the community. (C) To promote exhibitions of articles made by its members andto present to the community the work of noteworthy artisans. (D) To help and encourage all persons interested in the arts, through educational and social activities. (E) To provide a focal point for art activities in the community.

10. Fun Fact...in 2005, Robin Ceciliani was listed as President, Mike Smith as Vice President and Show Chair and Ruthe Ayers as Treasurer. Sandra Tucker was elected Secretary. During this period the annual show grew steadily and other activities, such as school programs were discontinued although grants were continued to the school arts departments to supplement the schools budgets. Students artwork continues to be displayed at the annual show.

11. Fun Fact... in 2018 LMCA donated over $2000 to the following local school and Historic sites:
- Corbett high school Art Department
- Vista house restoration
- The city of Troutdale, Glenn Otto Park restoration fund

12. Fun Fact... in 2019 LMCA made a donation to the Lukemia Lymphoma Society.

14. Fun Fact... According to Jay Burchak one of the longest standing members in our group: "One of the first locations we displayed our crafts was the old grange building, on the road to Vista House. It was small, we were quiet crowed, and it always seemed to rain at our shows. Several members had to be pulled out of the mud to drive home after the show. We would have food for the event. I would guess maybe 15-20 members back then."

16. Fun Fact...A $1000 grant was awarded to LMCA in 2013 by Harold and Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation. At the time Robin Cecilli was President, Mike South was Show Chair, and Ruth Arys was Secretary. The Grant was then gifted by the LMCA to the local schools art department.

20. Fun Fact... Artists at LMCA are juried in each year, and are evaluated on some of these criteria: skills, technique, unique process and quality of work. The group meets once a month to help plan and support this annual event through volunteering time to help support the shows continuance.

21. Fun Fact... we give back and donate to keep Crown Point history alive. LMCA has always supported the Vista House in their artist endeavors.
